Fey To Be Recognized and Awarded At the 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Miami
With 17 million records sold, 6 albums under her belt, 14 No.1 singles at radio level nationwide, the ability to continuously sell out concert venues; she is considered Mexico’s most beloved artist, and her most recent LP “La Fuerza Del Destino” was certified gold and platinum, and earned her a Latin Grammy nomination. The preceding is exactly the amount of success many artists in today’s music strive to achieve, though only an esteemed few, such as Fey can actually accomplish. She is a bona fide superstar in every aspect and is always giving back to her fans, which have supported and loved her from the start. To name one instance, Fey was the pioneer artist to realize a concept that has now become one of the most successful events on the national level; The National Gay Club Tour. Granda Entertainment in association with Club Papi Productions brought Fey exclusively to the GLBT community with shows at different Gay venues throughout the U.S. After word got out about the immense success of this tour, the floodgates opened and it became easier for other A-list artists to do the same and really give back to a community they felt had been ignored for too long. The Mexican singer had no reservations about embarking on the tour. In fact, she has a song called “Mujer Contra Mujer” (woman with woman) which talks about a romance between two women and the evolution of that relationship. When questioned why she did this during an interview, Fey said “This song is very cool because it is a song I perfectly understand because I sang it thinking of my friends because it talks about being gay and respecting that.” That sort of attention, understanding, support, and respect for the GLBT community is exactly why Fey will be a recipient at the 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. On Thursday, May 25th, 2006 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in South Beach, FL, The GLAAD Media Awards will recognize and honor mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. This is the first year the GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Miami. The event will focus on GLAAD’s nominees in Spanish-language media. GLAAD certainly knows how to throw a party; the star studded event will include guests such as Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who will be presenting that night, as well as Sarah Shahi (The L Word); Eduardo Xol (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition); Lili Estefan, Raul de Molina, Cachita (El Gordo y la Flaca); Ana María Polo (Caso Cerrado); Charytin (Escándalo TV); openly gay ex-professional baseball player Billy Bean; and GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano and many more. Fey has always been a strong supporter of the GLBT community and has a very special place for them in her heart, because of all of their undying and unfaltering support throughout her career. Fey is scheduled to perform at Los Angeles Gay Pride on June 11th as well as the San Francisco Gay Pride on June 25th. At the GLAAD ceremony, Fey will receive the Valentía Award. This award is presented to media professionals who, through their work in Spanish-language media, have increased the visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The most admirable thing is that Fey has managed to do this by doing nothing more than just being herself.
